It is recorded in the history book of Wat Nakhon Si Thammarat that it was established in AD 2114 without Wisung Kam Sima. There is a saying that it was moved from Wat Sa Nong Hoi (a deserted place with old bricks to see) to re-establish as Wat Rong Bon. Abbots are not listed. But there is a saying that In the past, there was a Thera amulet who set up the temple and kept 3 ashes in the principal Buddha image at the pavilion, named Somphan Thongpan, Somphan Thonghom, Somphan Thong Ho until he arrived at Achan Iad (Por Than Iad), a teacher of Luang Pu Khiao Intha. Muni, after Father Than Iad passed away, the villagers invited Luang Pu Khiao to become the abbot until Luang Pu Khiao passed away. Wat Rong Bon was vacant for many years as the abbot. Villagers therefore invited Ajarn Somnuk Chandhammo to take over the temple as the abbot in 1994 and continue to the present day.
